A desktop app for exams where extensions cannot run: Respondus LockDown Browser, ExamSoft, Safe Exam Browser, Proctorio, and Honorlock. The answer overlay is excluded from screen capture, recording, and sharing, so proctoring software does not see it.

How to Set It Up

Do this before your exam, not during it

Download and Run

Run the installer, or the portable file if you cannot install software on your machine. The app is called System Service Host so it blends into your task list.

Windows SmartScreen may warn about an unrecognized app. Click More info, then Run anyway.

Start It First

Launch Cheatly before you open your lockdown browser. Most lockdown browsers scan running apps only at launch.

The overlay stays hidden until you ask for an answer.

Press Ctrl+Shift+A

On any question, press Ctrl+Shift+A. Cheatly reads your screen and shows the answer in an overlay only you can see.

The answer is copied to your clipboard automatically, and multiple choice options are selected for you.

Hide It Instantly

Press Ctrl+Shift+E to make the overlay disappear at once, or Ctrl+Shift+H to toggle it.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Q to quit the app completely.

Capture the screen and get the answer.

Type the last answer into the focused field.

Show or hide the overlay.

Emergency hide, instantly.

On macOS the shortcuts use Cmd instead of Ctrl, and the app needs Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions on first launch (System Settings → Privacy & Security).
